A
Medicare HMO Plan
is an Affordable Alternative to Medigap Insurance
It was
becoming a difficult task for Mr. Carl Adams to decide whether to
choose a Medigap policy or a Medicare HMO plan. Several offers
were coming his way from various insurers. However, Mr. Adams was
not sure which one would be more appropriate for him.
Unable
to resolve the issue by himself, Carl started surfing the net in search
of information. His search for information came to an end when he
came across our Medicare Insurance site. This is the web site you are on now! A complete database on information
on Medicare HMO plans is available at the site.
An HMO
or Health Maintenance Organization provides managed care. HMOs have
contracted with the federal government via the Medigap Advantage
program, formerly called the Medigap+choice. The HMOs provide health
benefits to persons eligible for Medigap who enroll in their Medicare
HMO plan. The client will then receive benefits and care through the
HMO instead of the traditional fee for service Medicare program.
Advantages of Medicare HMO plans are that the premiums are normally lower than
a Medigap insurance plan. Moreover, the HMO works as the facilitator
between the provider and the client which spares the patient the trouble
of searching for physicians themselves.
Many seniors
face similar predicaments in choosing between a Medigap HMO plan and a Medigap insurance policy.
When you
enroll in a Medigap HMO plan, it will be illegal for a provider to
sell you an additional Medigap plan under the existing laws. If you
already have an HMO, you may keep the Medigap plan for stipulated
period till you decide whether you wish to continue with the Medigap
HMO.
